PANJIM: The Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (GSIDC) has completed the work of grade separator at Dabolim Airport, which will be inaugurated and opened for public use on Tuesday, at 10 am, by Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant.
This project started on February 22, 2014 and was supposed to be completed by December 31, 2018 but was delayed almost a year due to the permissions required from South Western Railways, closely located petroleum pipeline, change in the grade separator design and financial issues.
The newly constructed grade separator consists of two U-shaped flyovers one towards Verna and the other towards Vasco side of the Goa International Airport, at Dabolim.
This was the need of the hour considering the massive traffic movement from all sides of Goa, on the roads leading to Dabolim Airport, especially during peak hours of the flights movement, eventually resulting into traffic congestion near the airport.
These two newly constructed flyovers along with the slip roads will facilitate smooth traffic movement towards and away from the airport and will avoid traffic congestion near the airport.
Total length of the flyover towards Verna is 686.74 m, including two approach roads from two ends of this flyover. Total length of the flyover towards Vasco is 579.34 m, including two approach roads from two ends of this flyover. In addition to the two flyovers, two slip roads of 7.5m carriageway width have been constructed towards Verna and one slip road of 7.5m carriageway width has been constructed towards Vasco which will carry dedicated traffic in and out of the airport. Total cost of the project is Rs 41,79,69,000.
Currently, GSIDC is in the process of building roads, bridges, hospitals, libraries, stadiums, jetties, bus stands, Ravindra Bhavans, swimming pools, market complexes, holistic development of cities, etc.
Minister for Transport Mauvin Godinho, Minister for Social Welfare Milind Sagun Naik, Minister for Public Works Department Deepak Prabhu Pauskar, MLA of Cortalim Alina Saldanha, MLA of Vasco-Da-Gama Jose Luis Carlos Almeida, Vice Chairman, GSIDC and MLA of Mapusa Joshua Peter De Souza; Chief Secretary Parimal Rai, IAS, Airport Director, Goa International Airport Gagan Malik and other dignitaries will be present.
