PANJIM: Almost 25 years after adopting the resolution, the Goa government finally transferred the loss making industrial estates – Daman and Diu – consisting of 167 industrial units to the Omnibus Industrial Development Corporation (OIDC) of Daman and Diu and Dadra and Nagar Haveli.
Goa Industrial Development Corporation in November last year, handed over the industrial estates at Daman and Diu on “As is Where is Basis” along with the assets and liabilities to OIDC.
The lease with167 small and medium scale units, located on 207 plots at the industrial estates of Daman and Diu, signed 30 years ago expired in 2015, and was not renewed. The total land at Daman industrial estate is 2,87,735 sq mtrs and at Diu it is 1,12,738 sq mtrs.
Speaking to Herald, IDC managing director Narayan Gad confirmed that following approval from the State cabinet, the industrial estates, along with assets and liabilities, were transferred to their respective administration.
IDC in its meeting held on June 16, 1992 resolved to pass on all its activities in Daman and Diu industrial estates to OIDC. The Union Ministry for Industries, via a letter dated August 26, 1993 had communicated its no objection to this.
However, the process got delayed following modalities set by the Union Ministry of Industries on how the transfer should take place.
“We drafted the proposal based on the modalities, as approved by the Union Ministry for Home Affairs in their policy in regards to transfer of assets and liabilities, in 1998,” Gad said.
IDC has also allotted ready built sheds and plots to the entrepreneurs there. IDC has clarified that the services of the staff, who have unconditionally opted for permanent absorption in OIDC, will be posted in equivalent posts under OIDC and will be governed as per the rules/service conditions as applicable to the employees of OIDC.
