MARGAO: With hue and cry over the jeweller’s murder, the under pressure Margao District Administration on Tuesday held an urgent meeting chaired by District Collector of South Goa to decide immediately over the repairs of the existing CCTVs in town.
The District Administration set a deadline for starting more than half of the CCTVs before the October 1.
Herald on Monday’s edition of South Goa Page reported how the slow pace of the line departments for the process of having CCTVs for Margao was hampering the security and safety of the town.
A meeting called by the District Collector was attended by Margao MLA Digambar Kamat, South Goa Superintendent of Police, Traffic DySP of Margao, Margao Municipal Council, the contractor who fit the CCTVs, engineers of Electricity Department and others decided on a time bound plan of action for the revival of the existing CCTVs of Margao.
The contractor, who fit the CCTVs through Margao Municipal Council’s initiative, has been asked to immediately start work on the revival of old system.
The contractor has reportedly informed that of the 37 atleast 15 to 20 CCTVs can be revived. The contractor has been asked to start the work of checking all the CCTVs and find which ones can be revived. In the first phase, the contractor will revive these CCTVs. The meeting has decided that October 1 will be the deadline for starting of the CCTVs which can be revived.
In the second phase, the decision on replacement/installation will be decided. The MMC has committed to bear the expense of the repairs. The control room for the CCTVs will continue to be at the Police Headquarters.
Margao MLA after the meeting said, “Let’s get over what has happened in the past regarding the CCTVs of Margao. Today we have decided to start the services back and have fixed a deadline.”
The important locations that need to be serviced by the surveillance system will be taken on priority basis.
