MARGAO:  After failed deadlines, the State Youth Policy will be finally unveiled within a month and half, even as the three day 13th State Youth Festival will get underway at the Ravindra Bhavan, beginning from December 5.
Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs, Ramesh Tawadkar told the media on Monday that the State Youth Policy could not be finalised and notified after members of the legislative assembly demanded that the government invite suggestions and objections before finalisation of the draft. “To ensure transparency and going by the decision of the house, the draft policy was opened for suggestions. We are scrutinising the suggestions and objections and it will take the government maximum one month and half to finalise the policy”, he said.
Meanwhile, Tawadkar said the State Youth Festival is meant for youth in the age group of 15-29 years. “The main objective of the youth festival is to unravel the unknown and hidden talents of the youth and to bring them in the forefront of a cultural life. The festival will give talented youth from the talukas, rural and urban areas exposure at the state level”, he said.
Meanwhile, the sports minister on Monday announced that the Dilip Sardesai Sports Excellence Award for the year 2014-15 will be presented to tennis player Natasha Palha.
The award was instituted by the government of Goa in the year 2008 to pay tribute to Goa’s greatest test cricket legend Sardesai and to inspire upcoming local sports persons to attain greater heights in sports at the international arena.
