Finance Department directed to shore up State’s revenue through GST

Ahead of drafting State Budget 2023-24, the Chief Minister held a review meeting with the department and interacted with officers on various issues that need to be addressed and resolved

PANJIM: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Thursday directed the Finance Department to pay special attention to increase the State’s own revenue through Goods and Service Tax (GST) and other revenue-earning departments and corporations. 

Ahead of drafting the State Budget 2023-24, the Chief Minister held a review meeting with the Finance Department and interacted with the officers on various issues that need to be addressed and resolved. The meeting also discussed about initiatives to be taken up under the Finance Department for the current year. 

In a series of tweets after the meeting, Sawant said that he took a review of the status of initiatives to increase the revenue of the State through GST and revenue-earning departments and corporations. 

The meeting also held a discussion on the plans to get maximum grants from the Central government. 

“Took review on the Centrally sponsored schemes and Central sector schemes and directed officials to take as much benefit as possible from the schemes provided by the Centre,” Sawant tweeted. 

He further tweeted informing about review been taken on various projects under the Social Welfare Department and Data Analytics Cell. The meeting took review of various initiatives taken for the utilisation of funds available in District Mineral Fund (DMF). 

According to sources, with increase in GST collection during the last calendar year, the State government has increased the revenue collection target of Commercial Department by Rs 1,200 crore for the upcoming financial year. As such, the department’s target is now set to Rs 6,533 crore.
