Fiona’s legal team applauds CBI efforts

Senior lawyer Vikram Varma, who represented Scarlett’s mother Fiona MacKeown, told the media that justice has been finally delivered and that the sentence would go a long way to send a signal that law and order in the beach belt should not be violated.
“After the trial in the Children’s Court and thousands of pages of evidence, there was a lot of convolutions of evidence. The facts were turned into fiction and fiction into facts (referring to the investigation). We are lucky that the best legal minds of the country, sitting in the High Court, could extract truth out of these pages and come out with this particular conclusion,” he said, applauding the efforts of the CBI team.
Claiming that they were certain that Scarlett was indeed drugged, raped and killed when her bruised semi-nude body was found on the beach, Varma also recalled how the authorities initially rejected their claim until the second autopsy.
“Fiona is happy,” he said adding the court has also slapped a fine of Rs 2.60 lakh on the convict to be paid to MacKeown as compensation.
