PANJIM: The Anti-Corruption Branch of the Directorate of Vigilance has registered a First Information Report against ex-BDO of Mormugao Block Mohini Halarnkar alias Mohini A S Shirwaikar, and another official Saroj Naik on charges of corruption.
The case was registered based on a complaint filed by Chicalim Panchayat Secretary Siddhesh Faldesai who alleged that the duo destroyed official records of the monthly panchayat meetings of three panchayats.
“They visited the panchayat office to search for a memorandum, issued by the block development officer, and the letter purported to be of the government advocate… whereby she directed the secretaries of village panchayats of Chicalim, Sancoale and Majorda to deposit Rs 25,000 each in the government treasury as payment in lieu of Court Fee and Stamp Duty,” an official said.
“She further demanded the proceedings register and other records… for inspection and tore the pages of monthly meeting proceedings of Chicalim panchayat dated September 3, 2014.”
An FIR was initially registered by the Vasco Police, which was thereafter transferred to the ACB after government’s approval to investigate the case under Prevention of Corruption Act.
