FIR against ex-DIG Gupta in bribery case

PANJIM: In what could land Goa’s former Deputy Inspector General of Police Vimal Gupta in further trouble, the Anti Corruption Branch (ACB) has registered a First Information Report (FIR) against him in an alleged bribery charge.
The State government had recommended registering the FIR against him, PSI Devyani Naik, her husband and constable Chetan Naik in the case that led to Gupta’s transfer and suspension of the two police personnel.
It is learnt that ACB’s proposal seeking preliminary inquiry into ‘vague allegation’ was rejected by the govt that recommended registering FIR.
The government had relived Gupta “because of his not so good activities.” PSI Naik was undergoing a departmental enquiry.
The department had transferred all departmental enquiries to Gupta including Naik’s. It was during the hearing that the PSI and the constable allegedly tried to bribe the DIG to close the enquiry.
With the registration of the FIR under sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act, sources said the foursome could soon be summoned for questioning.
