PANJIM: Panjim police registered an offence against unidentified workers of Goa Suraksha Manch (GSM) for allegedly violating the code of conduct on polling day, Wednesday.
A case under sections 188 (disobedience to order promulgated by public servant), 171-C (undue influence at elections), 171-F (punishment for undue influence or personation at an election) of the IPC was registered taking cognisance of a complaint filed by former Panjim MLA Siddhart Kunkalienkar.
In his complaint, Kunkalienkar alleged that unknown persons ‘with their common intention were sitting near Amlani Centre, Atmaram Borkar Road, with a banner depicting the picture of GSM candidate along with symbol, name and party name violating the mode code of conduct.’
He also charged the unidentified persons with threatening and abusing him when he requested them to take off the banner. Panjim PI Siddhant Shirodkar confirmed the registration of a First Information Report (FIR) for investigation.
Meanwhile, Panjim police have launched inquiries into the complaint and counter complaint filed by Congress and BJP against each other’s party workers. The first complaint filed by Congress alleged that Kunkalienkar and a CCP corporator ‘snatched’ the electoral roll from the possession a Mahila Congress worker who seated with another worker at a booth table at Tonca on Wednesday. The complaint also spoke of outraging of modesty. The BJP thereafter lodged a counter complaint against Congress workers of threat and intimidation.
With inquiries on, Shirodkar said both parties have been asked to produce evidence even as letters to all the concerned have been dispatched for questioning.
