MARGAO: Quepem Sub-divisional magistrate Ajit Panchwadkar has lodged an FIR with the Cuncolim police against Quepem MLA Babu Kavlekar in connection with the use of loudspeaker without permission at a function held at the residence of the MLA on Sunday evening.
District Electoral Officer and Returning Officer for the South Goa Lok Sabha constituency Mihir Vardhan said the authorities have initiated action in the matter by lodging an FIR against the MLA. He also said the AERO of Quepem constituency will issue a show-cause notice to the MLA for holding the function without permission.
Sources said the Quepem MLA has told the authorities that there was no meeting at his residence and he had hosted a party on the occasion of his daughter’s birthday. While Chief Minister and BJP Leader Manohar Parrikar told the media here on Monday that the flying squad reached the MLA’s residence late, the authorities, however, begged to differ. “There was no delay on part of the flying squad. We have been prompt in attending to the call. By the time the squad reached the spot, it was already late”, informed an official, saying that there neither information from
the police nor any citizen that a meeting was taking place at the residence of Quepem MLA.
