PANJIM: Old Goa Police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) against BJP’s Cumbarjua candidate Pandurang Madkaikar for allegedly violating the model code of conduct during the campaign for the Assembly elections.
The case, based on a complaint filed by one Shirin Naik, accuses Madkaikar of distributing coupons from a department store run by a trust.
The complaint was initially filed before the State Chief Electoral Officer which was later transferred to Old Goa Police, as it is covers the area that makes up Cumbarjua constituency.
The First Information Report has been registered under Sections 171-B (bribery), 171—E (punishment for bribery) and 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) of Indian Penal Code and section 123(1) of Representation of People’s Act, 1951 (corrupt practice during election).
A senior police official said they will summon the former Congress minister for questioning if required.
“We will examine the complainant and the witnesses if any based on which Madkaikar will be called,” he said.
