PANJIM: A 23-year old employee, Rahul Komarpant, of a 5-star Hotel was electrocuted on Monday and was admitted in a super-specialty hospital along the railway station road in Aquem. Since then he was on artificial life support system and his condition has not improved.
Rahul’s family believe that he died in the Hotel and hospital conspired with the hotel to keep him on artificial life support in order to absolve the Hotel of any claim that Komarpant died on duty.
According to the family, Rahul, who lives in Mangan Kindlebag, Canacona just passed his ITI in electrical and was working as a trainee in the Hotel was asked to do some electrical work. “He was made to climb a ladder without any safety equipment to fix something. He got electrocuted and he fell. Another staff member switch off the power but by then he was not responding and was taken to the private hospital”, said Shankar Naik a relative of Rahul.
Naik claimed that Rahul’s colleagues told him that Rahul was lifeless when he was taken out of the Hotel. “They told me that he did have any signs of life. Even the doctor told me that he did show any signs of life when he was brought in he was lifeless”.
Naik also informed that Rahul was brought to the hospital by the Hotel staff in a private vehicle and not in an ambulance. “Why did they not call an ambulance and why did they not take him to a government hospital?”, he questioned
Rahul’s cousin, Ravi Komarpant, was with him in the hospital for the last three days. ” A saline drips is connected to him but the nurses switch it on only when someone goes to the ICU to visit him. I saw with my own eyes. They are only trying to show he is alive but we know he is no longer alive”, said Ravi.
He pointed out that Ravi is still clean shaved even after three days of hospitalisation. “He was clean shaved on Monday. If he was alive, he would have grown light beard by now”, he said.
Ravi said that this is conspiracy so that the Hotel can claim that he did not die on duty.
