PANJIM: Some 15 days after five tourists fell off the cliff while clicking a selfie, Anjuna police have registered an offence against the owner of the hotel for endangering human life.
“Edwin Nunes who operates the hotel has been booked under various sections dealing with endangering human life and personal safety of the tourists,” Anjuna Police Inspector Paresh Naik told Herald.
Naik said that following a complaint from Delhi-based Lakhwinder Singh, father of one of the victims, they have registered an FIR. As per the complaint, his daughter Karishma was holding the mobile when incident happened.
Five tourists, including four women, had fallen off the cliff while clicking the selfie on February 22. Two women are still in hospital at Panjim with doctors fearing that they might be paralysed for life.
The complaint mentions that all were leaning on the bamboo railing when it gave way. “They were on the balcony of the hotel which had this unsafe railing,” Naik said referring to the complaint.
The case against Nunes has been registered under sections 336, 337 and 338 of the Indian Penal Code. Interestingly, Nunes was in the news recently after Goa State Pollution Control Board ordered a shutdown of his popular shack ‘Curlies’ located on Anjuna beach.
