MARGAO: Four days after the Director of Municipal Administration lodged an FIR against Cuncolim municipal officials in the Cuncolim CFL lamps case, the Crime branch is yet to register a criminal case in the matter and initiate investigations.
Crime Branch, SP Karthik Kashyap on Tuesday confirmed that the investigating agency has not yet registered the FIR, but was quick to promise that a criminal case would be registered soon against the CMC officials.
Sources in the know attributed the delay in registering the FIR and initiating investigations into the CFL case on account of the fact that the Crime Branch is overburdened with several cases, including the two from Canacona – building collapse case and the rape-cum-murder of a fisherwoman.
The DMA had lodged the FIR based on the Vigilance report to initiate criminal investigations into the whereabouts of the CFL lamps. The DMA’s action had also come in view of the government’s recommendations to register the FIR with the Crime Branch.
