PANJIM: Director of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) of Goa Nitin Raiker informed that in a first, the State Fire and Emergency Services will induct four women personnel into the brigade.
He was speaking at the 35th Annual Inspection Day Parade of the Directorate of Fire and Emergency Services, which was held at the fire safety headquarters, Panjim, on Saturday.
Raiker said that the long pending issue of inducting women in the Fire Service Department have come to a fruitful conclusion.
“The department for the first time in the history of Goa has appointed one woman sub-officer and three women fire fighters, who are presently undergoing elementary course in general fire fighting at the Regional Training Centre, Goa,” he said.
“The Government of India has recommended a Model Bill 2019, so that there is broad uniformity across the country for Fire and Life Safety Regulations. The department had proposed to the government for adopting the bill and the proposal is at the final stage for getting the legislative approval,” he added.
Dr Puneet Kumar Goel, IAS, chief secretary, Government of Goa was chief guest for the function. Sneha Gitte, special secretary (Home) and Dr P K John (founder director of DFES) were also present.
Dr Goel inaugurated the Vehicle Tracking ad Management System (GPS), which has enhanced the response mechanism while attending to fire and emergency incidents across the State.
Further, he praised the department’s performance towards prompt and effective response in attending to fire and emergency calls compared to last three years.
Earlier, Nitin Raiker inspected the Annual Parade and the Best Turn Out of the fire personnel from various ranks were selected for the Best Turn Out awards. The first place for Squad Drill, Ladder Drill was awarded to Fire Force Headquarters, Pump Drill to Fire Force Headquarters and Tug of War to Ponda Fire Station.
The Inspection Day Parade is an annual event to test the overall operational fitness level of the fire personnel for prompt response in the event of any emergency. Certificates and trophies were handed over to the winners of the Drill Competition and the Annual Sports Meet.
