Fire at Bicholim industrial estate

BICHOLIM: Fire engulfed a unit at Bicholim Industrial Estate on Sunday causing a substantial loss, even as the fire brigade personnel prevented further damage and casualty.

BICHOLIM: Fire engulfed a unit at Bicholim Industrial Estate on Sunday causing a substantial loss, even as the fire brigade personnel prevented further damage and casualty.
The fire took place when dry grass outside the Sainath Industrial Corporation caught fire which spread to the waste material dumped behind the unit. 
The high-tension wire and electric cable above the place of incident also melted due to fire causing a loss to the electricity department. Fortunately, a major tragedy was averted and five fire tenders had to be summoned from Bicholim, Valpoi and Pernem to bring the fire under control.
According to Bicholim fire station officer Shripad Gawas, the fire took place at around 4.45 pm, destroyed the rear portion of the factory. 
He also added that dumping of fibre material close to the factory was dangerous and unit the owner should find proper place to dump the waste material.
The fire department estimated loss to the factory at Rs 3 lakh.
