PANJIM: A makeshift storeroom at the under-construction site of the recently-inaugurated Mandovi Bridge caught fire on Wednesday. Luckily there were no casualties at the site.
The Directorate of Fire & Emergency Services informed that three fire tenders were used to douse the fire. “The scrap materials, stored in the makeshift stockroom had caught fire. Fire personnel took almost one and half hour to douse the flames. Three fire tenders were rushed to the site,” an official said.
While the reason for fire is being investigated, inquiry so far has revealed that welding work was being carried out at the site when two LPG cylinders came in contact resulting in the blast. The traffic movement was disrupted for a short while but resumed soon after the fire was put out, sources said.
