Fire breaks out in Taleigao fields

PANJIM: Major fire broke out in the fields near the St Michael School in Taleigao, on Friday afternoon.

Huge flames were seen coming from the fields, the entire area was filled with thick smoke and smoke rose high in the sky, which was visible from different areas of Taleigao. 

Traffic on the road stretch at the said school was halted for a brief period of time due to the fire incident. The residents in the vicinity were affected by the thick smoke.

Fire tenders were rushed to the spot to douse the flames. The reason for the fire break out is still unknown. “The fire spread quickly due to the dry grass and it could be due to the soaring temperature which we are witnessing these days. It needs to be investigated to ascertain the exact cause of fire,” a senior official of the Fire and Emergency Services said.

Another fire incident was reported near Goa Business School at Goa University, however, it was timely controlled and doused by the personnel of the Fire and Emergency Services. It is pertinent to note that Goa is currently seeing a number of fire incidents and most of them are being reported in the fields and in hills.
