PANJIM: The State government has notified ‘Fire’ as Human Inducted Disaster in the State Specific Disaster list following major fire that broke out in the Berger Becker Coatings Pvt Ltd factory at Pilerne Industrial Estate, on Tuesday.
A notification in this respect was issued by the Under Secretary (Revenue II) Sapna S N Bandodkar, on Thursday.
The list is maintained in respect of providing relief assistance within the limit of 10 per cent of the funds available from State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) to the victims of State Specific Disasters. As per the department’s Office Memorandum dated March 20, 2015 and notification of April 6, 2018, and amended in May 25, 2022, related to damages caused due to ‘local disasters’ specified as State Specific Disasters, as many as nine categories of Natural Disasters and six categories of Human Induced Disasters were listed.
The nine types of Natural Disasters listed referred to as Category A were Gusty Winds, Heavy Rains, Thunder and Lightning Strikes/Cloudbursts, Floods, Landslides, Biological Hazards, Heatwave, Tsunami and Earthquakes.
The six Human Induced Disasters referred to as Category B included Drowning incidents, Landslides (Mining Areas), Industrial Accidents, Boat Capsize, Road/Railway/Aircraft Accidents and Terrorist Attacks/Stampede/Riot. ‘Fire’ has now been included in Human Induced Disasters category as per the latest notification.
