MAPUSA: A major fire broke out at a store dealing in household items located opposite to Calangute Village Panchayat building, causing heavy damage to property on Tuesday.
According to Pilerne Fire Station incharge, the control room received a call at 4.45 am informing about the smoke billowing out of the store.
“Upon reaching at the spot it was found that a store having four shops was at blaze. Since the store was having plastic items, the fire had gone out of control. We then called Mapusa Fire Station for assistance. Immediately, the team started fighting the fire”, the Pilerne fire station incharge said.
It took five hours for the Pilerne and Mapusa teams to doze the fire completely. A vehicle from headquarters was also called for help.
The show owner’s car which was parked next to the store was also damaged in the blaze.
The cause of fire was not known. The Pilerne Fire Station incharge has written to Calangute police and Electricity Department to ascertain the exact cause of fire.
This is the second incident of fire that took place in Calangute in last three days.
