Fire dept drops practical training for sub-officers

PANJIM: The Directorate of Fire & Emergency Services, which has been a Regional Training Centre for sub-officers from various parts of the country, has dropped the practical training for the first time due to the COVID-19 pandemic. 

The Department recently facilitated training for the 45th External Sub-Officers Course at its regional centre, St Inez wherein 26 trainees from Andhra Pradesh, Delhi, Haryana, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Uttarakand, Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal and two trainees from Nepal Army underwent the session from January 1, 2020. They completed their practical training while their exams were conducted by maintaining strict health protocols like social distancing. 

However, the upcoming sessions will be held back until the present situation comes under control. 

Assistant Divisional Officer (North Goa) Ajit Kamat, through a press statement said that during the six months of training, the trainees were subjected to Theoretical and Practical Training on various topics of Fire Prevention and Protection Measures such as Fixed Fire Fighting Installation, Building Construction, Means of Escape, Air Craft Rescue, Basic Physics And Chemistry, Special Services, Electricity, Small & Special Gears, Water Tender, Fire Service Administration, Portable Fire Extinguishers, Hydraulics, Hydrant & Fittings, Practical Firemanship, Watchroom Procedure and Mobilising, Ropes & Lines, Salvage, Water Relay, Fire Service House, Hose Fittings, Pump & Pump Operation, Breathing Apparatus Set, Ladder, Rural Fire, First Aid & Ambulance Aid, Resuscitation and Ship Fire. 

However, the ‘Practical Attachment’ scheduled from July 6 to September 22, this year has been relieved. “The COVID-19 pandemic does not allow the trainees to attend various practical training and visit various industries, hospitals and high rise buildings to understand the various facets of Inbuilt Fire Protection System,” it said. The trainees, who underwent the session in the first half of the year, have been relieved from the Regional Training Centre, Goa on July 21, 2020.

The Goa State Fire Force Training Centre is the Regional Training Centre for National Fire Service College, Nagpur, Ministry of Home Affairs, to impart training for Trainee Sub-Officers deputed from National Fire Service College, Nagpur.
