PANJIM: In view of the ongoing sewerage works of laying of main trunk line and manholes from Fire and Emergency Services premises to the Tonca Sewerage Treatment Plant (STP), the Imagine Panaji Smart City Development Limited (IPSCDL) in an advisory issued on Tuesday, has stated that the road from Caculo Mall to the bridge/culvert near STP, will remain closed from May 14, till June 10.
The said pipeline will pass along the road as well as across the St Inez Creek, further connecting the Tonca STP. It is apprehended that in view of the large one-metre diameter of the pipe being laid, the gaps/voids between the drilled hole for the pipe and the pipe laid would be naturally filled with surrounding soil and there is a possibility that this may lead to settlement of road in the abovementioned stretch in the coming days.
Therefore, to ensure the safety of the commuters/citizens/vehicles the said stretch shall remain closed for a period of 28 days. Commuters/citizens/vehicles are requested to avoid using this road during the closure period.
The IPSCDL stated that it is committed to complete this stretch in the shortest possible time-frame and has sought cooperation from citizens at large and residents of St Inez and Panjim, in particular to enable it to complete this last leg of its St Inez Smart Road project successfully.
The closure of this stretch had been saved for last, aiming to minimise the duration of inconvenience that may arise during the execution of the work, the IPSCDL said.
