Fire engulfs bakery at Mapusa

The owner of the bakery has claimed a loss of around Rs 2 lakh while the fire-fighting team managed to save goods worth Rs 50,000.

MAPUSA: Govekar Bakery, owned by Dattaram Govekar, caught fire on Sunday night. The incident occurred at around 11 pm and a team of firefighters from Mapusa Fire Services rushed to the spot and managed to bring the situation under control after fighting the fierce blaze for almost 40 minutes.

The owner of the bakery has claimed a loss of around Rs 2 lakh while the fire-fighting team managed to save goods worth Rs 50,000.

“The cause of the fire is suspected to be a short circuit and we will know for certain after we get the investigation report from the Mapusa Police and the Electricity Department,” said an official from the Mapusa Fire Services.
