MARGAO: A major fire completely gutted a car accessories shop at Aquem, behind Power House, destroying property, which the owner valued at Rs 35 lakh.
The incident occurred at around 7.50 pm when the owner of the adjoining shop saw smoke billowing from the burning establishment (Car Planet). The fire soon engulfed the entire shop, destroying property stacked inside. There was panic around as sound of blasts could be heard, even as the shutter collapsed due to the intense heat.
Two fire tenders pressed into service took over an hour to contain the raging fire. Sources said the owner had closed the shop for the day before the incident occurred.
Fire services have said the owner has claimed that property worth over Rs 35 lakh was inside the shop. The exact cause of the fire is being ascertained.
