Fire Engulfs Cashew Plantation in Nadora, Bardez; Prompt Response Prevents Further Damage

A fire broke out at a cashew plantation in Nadora, Bardez-Goa, engulfing the plantation and dry grass on Saturday afternoon. Upon receiving a call, the firefighters immediately reached the spot and doused the fire. 

Upon receiving the alarm, firefighters swiftly arrived at the scene and battled the flames, despite encountering challenges posed by the wind. Despite their efforts, four plantations were affected, with one sustaining significant damage before the firefighters could fully contain the blaze. Shantaram Gawas, the owner of one of the affected plantations, witnessed his property being engulfed in flames before help arrived. 

The total area affected is estimated to be over 10,000 sqmt, with an approximate loss of Rs. 80,000. Fortunately, the valiant efforts of the firefighters, along with assistance from locals, saved property worth around Rs. 5 lakh. Locals played a crucial role in supporting the firefighting efforts, aiding in dousing the flames alongside the firefighters. The community spirit displayed during the emergency highlights the importance of solidarity in times of crisis. 

According to locals, the fire likely originated from the burning of dry grass nearby, exacerbated by strong winds. Firefighters issued a cautionary reminder to refrain from igniting dry grasses, emphasizing the need for vigilance to prevent similar incidents in the future. 

The diligent duty crew, comprising Lt. Prakash J Kannaik, Yogesh R Amonkar, Hitesh B Parab, Lavindar L Salgaonkar, and Grish Gawas, demonstrated remarkable bravery and dedication in combating the fire, ensuring the safety of lives and property.
