In an unexpected turn of events, a massive fire erupted at a Crematorium near Dando Uddo Beach Siolim consuming dry grass and firewood on Friday evening. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in the incident. The Mapusa fire team’s swift response successfully extinguished the flames, averting further destruction.
Uncertain about the cause, locals speculate that an unintentional small fire set up outside the crematorium might have triggered the incident. “We don’t know exactly how the fire started, but it began in the afternoon. Workers were reportedly outside the crematorium, starting a fire. Perhaps, a few sparks were carried away by the wind, falling inside the crematorium and igniting the dry grass and wood” one local resident shared when asked about the cause for the fire to erupt.
Upon learning about the fire, locals rushed to the scene, attempting to contain it by pouring water with buckets. However, the fire quickly spread, prompting them to call the Mapusa Fire Department around 5 PM on Friday.
The Mapusa fire services acted promptly, containing the blaze and preventing its spread. The estimated loss is Rs 20,000, but firefighters managed to save wood valued at Rs 50,000.
