VALPOI: A massive fire engulfed the warehouse of a pharmaceutical company situated in the Honda industrial estate on Wednesday night.
Warehouse of Puniska Injectable Pvt Ltd, specialising in intravenous fluids was completely destroyed in fire. As many as eight fire tenders from Valpoi and Bicholim fire stations were pressed into service to douse the fire which continued for over six hours. The fire broke out at around 2 am when there was a thunderstorm and lightning.
The security staff noticed a fire in the warehouse and immediately alerted the owner, who informed the fire station.
Heavy machinery including excavators was used in the fire fighting efforts. The exact cause of the fire is not known. Also there were no casualties and the total loss is estimated to be around Rs 25-30 lakh.
