Margao: A substantial fire broke out at the massive garbage dump located behind Costa factory in Costa ground, Aquem, Margao. The incident unfolded late on Saturday night, resulting in local firefighters responding to the scene to gain control over the blaze.
Residents expressed their frustration, citing that the dump had been accumulating for approximately six months. They pointed out that the Margao Municipal Council (MMC) had failed to consistently collect waste from the area. Residents urgently requested the MMC to address the issue by promptly clearing the garbage, emphasizing that they would take stern measures if action was not taken soon.
In response, the contractor responsible for garbage collection highlighted MMC’s inadequacy, particularly regarding the lack of appropriate vehicles for waste collection within the ward. The incident underscores the need for effective waste management and timely collection to prevent such emergencies in the future.
