Home Minister Ravi Naik said that the training of industrial workforce in fire-fighting would be made mandatory for all the units in the state.
“The State government is planning to come up with fire fighting training for the industrial staff, which would be a mandatory process,” Naik told reporters.
The minister said that the training for the personals would be provided by the department of fire and emergency services.
“This will help them in fire extinguishing before the fire force arrives at the spot. Many at times lack of knowledge leads to harm at a great extend,” Naik said.
Naik was talking to reporters on the sidelines of Annual Inspection Day Parade of Fire and Emergency Services.
The Home Minister said that the training would be provided depending on the type of industry including the hazardous industries.
“The fire fighting becomes easier if blaze is controlled at initial stage. The industries can send their representatives who will be taking over the charges of fire safety at times of emergency,” Naik said.
Fire and Emergency Services Director Ashok Menon said that the department ensures that all the buildings and industries have fire fighting equipments working.
“Although the department cannot penalize the industries evading to install the mandatory fire fighting equipments, it has been seen that majority of them abide by the rules fearing loss to their lives and property,” Menon added.
The department will be soon procuring 32 metre long Ariel ladder costing Rs 3.61 crores superseding its ancestor, 23.5 metre long ladder which was procured 19 years back.
The presence of sky scrappers in Goa’s urban areas has forced the fire services to do buy a ladder, which can reach the tallest building in the state. The same would be also used in case of taller industrial units.
Home Minister has also suggested going two more Arial ladder in both North and South Goa.
