AGONDA: While the fire in the forest close to Chapoli Dam is still burning, but sources said that the situation was under control.
Canacona Deputy Collector Ramesh Gaonkar took stock of the situation along with Sreesthal Panchyat’s Biodiversity Committee members Vinay Tubki and Shirish Pai on Tuesday.
The fire which started at Karpa hillock on Monday afternoon was doused to a great extent by Tuesday evening. Biodiversity committee of Sreesthal Panchayat after inspecting had informed Goa State Biodiversity Board (GSBB) Member Secretary Dr Pradip Sarmokadam, who in turn asked for the senior officials of the forest department to keep eye on the situation.
Apart from members of biodiversity committee of Sreesthal Panchayat, panch member Rajesh Velip, Tejas Naik Gaonkar, Pratap Naik Gaonkar and Deputy Collector Ramesh Gaonkar were present till late night at the site.
