MARGAO, APRIL 15
Baffled over the cause behind the raging fire in the stationary-cum-transport office housed in a over century-old building, the fire services have sought the help of the Margao police to ascertain whether Wednesday’s fire was due to arson, sabotage or any other reason.
The fire services have also approached the power department to throw light on the fire inferno, to ascertain whether it was due to a short circuit or otherwise.
Margao Assistant Fire Divisional Officer, Prakash Parab said the fire services had no option than to approach the police and the power department as the fire men who fought the fire has no clue on the origin of the fire.
“Let the police and the power officials conduct their own investigations and the fire services would carry out its independent probe”, Parab said, adding that the fire services had to approach the police and power department as the two agencies are experts in this field of investigation.
Replying to a question, Parab said that it is not fair to comment on the exact cause of the fire unless he receives the reports from the police and power officials.
He, however, expressed his shock and surprise over the spread of the fire in the old building used to store stationary books and other chemicals.
“The way the fire has spread quickly to the building is indeed surprising. That’s why the fire services have asked the police and the power department to probe into the episode”, he added.
Replying to a question, Parab said the owner of the building has till date not submitted the estimated loss caused by yesterday’s fire incident.
