MARGAO: Fire Services guided by Tranquil Specialty Products Pvt Ltd started spraying the smouldering Sonsoddo dump yard with Renerzyne + enzyme on Thursday in an effort to completely douse the flames and stop the smoke emission.
Senior Executive of the company, Yayati Sarode was guiding the fire fighters on how to spray the enzyme that was mixed with water in one fire tender. Due to the winds he kept telling them to spray vertically and not horizontally.
The wind proved to be a great challenge as the smoke created a cloud thereby blinding the fire fighters who then did not know where to spray and had to stop the spraying till the smoke cleared.
The operations started at around 9.30 am and continued throughout the day even as fire services provided three fire tenders to be used to spreading the enzyme.
According to Yayati around 1000 litres of the enzyme will be required to cover the entire dump once following which the second layer will be spread.
“The enzyme multiplies as it percolates to the dump and it eliminates the bacteria that forms methane gas and hence the fire is doused as there is no methane left to burn and once the fire stops there will be no smoke left,” he said.
Although the smoke disappeared from the areas where the enzyme was spread, there were some wisps of smoke seen trailing out and that was because some cotton or other waste was being burnt, said Yayati.
