PONDA: An alert driver and the timely intervention by the Ponda Fire fighters personnel prevented a major fire tragedy at Wadi Talavalim hill on Wednesday wherein a tempo laden with dry grass caught fire after it came in contact with a live overhead wire.
According to Ponda Fire Station personnel, the tempo driver was carrying dry grass when it suddenly caught fire after coming in contact with live electricity overhead wires. The incident took place around 11 am on Wednesday.
“The labourers behind the tempo alerted the driver about the fire. The vigilant driver used his presence of mind and diverted the vehicle to a water tank at Dr Ramani Complex. The locals at first attempted to douse the fire using tap water but failed in their attempt and later the driver gave us a call,” said a Fire Brigade official.
The Fire Brigade reached the Ramani Complex put off the fire within 30 minutes.
