CALANGUTE: Around 25 firefighters from  the Pilerne, Panjim, Mapusa and Porvorim fire stations were involved in the fire fighting operations when a blaze broke out at a hotel in Baga, on Thursday evening. The fire was doused by around midnight.

Pilerne fire officer Shrikant Parrikar said while the cause of the fire is not known, it started in a store room on the second floor of the two-storeyed guesthouse and club at around 8 pm. “The godown had a large number of liquor bottles which started breaking and because of the alcohol the fire spread to the first and ground floor,” he said.

The firefighters used 50,000 litres of water to douse the fire, Parrikar said. No one was hurt in the incident.
