PANJIM, AUG 24
The management of the pharmaceutical company has denied dumping any waste water into the Mandovi River close to the Banastarim Bridge.
An official of the company was reacting to a report in the Herald which stated that Pollution Control Board (PCB) officials on Monday evening had found waste water being discharged through a pipe into the Mandovi River.
The report had also stated that PCB officials had visited a pharmaceutical company located in the vicinity and had held talks with the factory manager in this connection.
“We conform to the environment norms prescribed for the industry and the pharmaceutical plant is in operation.
However, the discharge into the river is not from the pharmaceutical plant,” stated an official of the pharmaceutical company.
“It is understood that sand mining activity is going on the banks of the river and it is not known whether they comply with the environmental norms or not,” the official added.
