PORVORIM: The electricity department has reportedly directed the company, involved in laying the underground cables from Tivim to Porvorim, to replace all 80 joints along the route.
“There are two electrical circuits along the route and each circuit has 40 joints. As per the indications given by the company, this work of replacing the joints will be completed by August,” an official said.
“Power supply gets disrupted due to frequent snapping of conductors. The department has therefore decided to replace the conductors along the 8-km route commencing from Tivim. This work is expected to be completed within 15 days,” the official added.
Meanwhile, the power shutdown at the Nachinola sub-station on Tuesday has had little improvement in the supply of power to Aldona and the village along with surrounding areas suffered three power cuts on Thursday.
Residents of Aldona have been facing severe power problems since the last two months and in order to rectify the faults, the electricity department had directed the Nachinola power sub-station to undertake shutdown on July 10 from 9.30 am to 4.30 pm.
The Nachinola sub-station provides power to Aldona, Nachinola, Moira, Pomburpa, Ucassaim, Bastora and surrounding areas.
Power supply was disrupted in Aldona and surrounding areas on Thursday from 9.30 am to 3.30 pm, followed by two shorter power outages later during the evening.
Upset over the frequent power outages, a delegation of residents from Aldona led by Nelson D’Cruz confronted Junior Engineer Harish Raikar at the section office at Gawar-Aldona.
They then took him along to meet Assistant Engineer Joseph Fernandes at Mapusa and gave vent to their grievances.
Fernandes explained to the delegation that the problem occurs mainly in monsoon when trees uproot and fall on electricity wires, thereby snapping power supply.
He added that the electricity department had also decided to divide the feeder at Aldona into two sections, to improve power supply to the village, but admitted that this project could take some time.
The delegation was not satisfied with the replies of the assistant engineer and proceeded to meet executive Engineer Prakash T, where they highlighted the issue
