FIRs registered for selling land in fraudulent manner

Offences came to light after the original landowners applied for RTI

MARGAO: Acting on a complaint from Salcete Mamlatdar Prataprao Gaonkar, Fatorda police have registered an FIR against 16 accused for allegedly selling properties fraudulently in Salcete taluka.

As informed by the police, FIRs have been registered under Sections 465, 468, 471 and 420 of IPC against the accused persons Franciso Colaso (Davorlim), Alex Faleiro (Sao Jose de Areal), Regina Faleiro, Paulina Faleiro, Ana Maria Faleiro, Sebestiao Fareira, Maria Faleiro, Anjelina Monteiro, Joana Faleiro, Martins Coutinho, Joao Luis, Valeriano Vaz, Ana Pedrina and Mahadev Chavan.

Police are trying to verify the copies of sale deeds produced before the mamlatdar for effecting mutation entries. The offences were committed between 2018 and 2019 and came to light a few months ago after the original landowners applied for information under RTI Act.

The properties alleged to be sold are in Cuncolim, Curtorim, Raia, Davorlim and one each in Dramapur, Sao Jose de Areal, Utorda and Gaundalim. At the primary level, it seems to be a big land-grabbing scam in the Salcete taluka.
