First foray of cruise tourists sows bigger hopes

VASCO: The first Cruise vessels with 648 high-end foreign tourists arrived at MPT cruise berth today. The voyagers were welcomed by Tourism Minister Dilip Parulekar. in presence of MPT officials. Before the vessel could arrive at Mormugao port the port authorities briefed the minister on the facilities made available to the visiting cruise vessels at the port and how it can complement in making Goa a must-visit-tourist-spot for top-notch travellers. An elated Parulekar assured all support from the Government of Goa to the cruise liner traffic at the port. 
“It has been informed by the port authorities that about fifty thousand foreign tourists would visit the state using cruise vessels. This is a big boost to the Goa Tourism as such high-end tourists would help in the growth of tourism in Goa and would increase revenue of the state. With similar efforts in next tourism season we expect to get over one lakh tourists coming down to Goa only through cruise vessels,” Parulekar told.
On berthing of the cruise liner, the guests were taken around for sight-seeing to Goa’s famous tourist spots which include Goa’s spice gardens, heritage sites.
