PANJIM: The first official meeting between the State government officials and Retired High Court Judge, Justice VK Jadhav, who heads the one-man Commission of Inquiry, constituted to inquire into the alleged land grab cases will be held on Thursday.
Justice Jadhav will be on his maiden visit to Goa on Thursday after being appointed to inquire into the multi-crore land scam cases.
The State government on August 30 had formed the single-member Commission under the Commission of Inquiries Act, 1952. The commission has to submit a report to the government with recommendations within four months from the date of its first seating.
With formalities still on to allot a dedicated office premise and staff to Justice Jadhav, the Commission will function from a private building at Patto-Panjim for now.
As per the terms and reference, the Commission will have to inquire and fix the responsibility in all the cases of land grab involving private land and any other land in the State, and to find out the involvement of government officers and any other public functionaries and private individualsin such land grabbing.
The Commission will also inquire and find out the loopholes, deficiencies, lacunas and negligence in the administrative system and the legal framework that led to the large scale land grabbing.
The Commission will also recommend to the government the steps, measures and actions to change the administrative system, legal frame work for the purpose of avoiding cases of land grabbing in future and also necessary changes to be made in the law for preventing such cases in the future.
