PANJIM: General Secretary of Goa Union of Anganwadi Workers(GUAW) Vijaya Naik on Thursday said the government should first serve justice to them and then only should ask to withdraw the protest.
Adding Vijaya said,“The agitation will continue until their demands are met.”
President of GUAW Devyani Tamsesaid,“A few days back when we had gone to meet the Women and Child Secretary, they were assured that he will help the anganwadiworkers to revoke the termination order.”
“The Chief Secretary said that the anganwadiworkers are sponsored by the Congress. He will not carry forward any of the agitators’ issues to the higher-ups if the workers fail to end their agitation within the next two days,” alleged Tamse.
“When we went to do the follow up, the Women and Child Secretary blamed us for taking support of political party and also threatened that he will file a complaint against us in the police station,” he added
It can be recalled that the seven anganwadiworkers who are terminated from their services had started a chain hunger strike since past 22 days at Azad Maidan, Panjim demanding revocation of termination order.
Tamse also alleged that the Director of Women and Child Development has issued an order to all the anganwadiworkers that those supporting these seven terminated workers will be immediately terminated from the service and that the vacancies so created thenceforth will be filled without giving a second thought.
According to Tamse they have been discharging their duty since 24 years as the anganwadiworker and therefore terminating them by citing the false reason is nothing but the injustice served to them by the ruling party.
