MARGAO: Asserting that the ban on fish from other States proves that formalin was used in fish, Congress MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco said the ban was a mere strategy to gain time in view of the Assembly Session and demanded a thorough enquiry into the episode so that the guilty can be taken to task.
Briefing media persons he said the very fact that fish from other States is being banned now proves that there was formalin found in it and further pointed out that the ban for only a fortnight is to seek time to ensure that the assembly proceedings continue without much problem.
“Tomorrow in the Assembly the chief minister will say that he has banned fish from outside Goa but the question that remains to be answered is who introduced the fish to formalin and where was it done and above all what action will be taken against them,” he said.
While disclosing that he had filed a question on this issue long before the raid was conducted, Reginaldo said it was also important to know for how long this exercise was going on and who has benefitted from it.
Reginaldo asserted that health and safety of the people cannot be compromised and said the chief minister should take stringent action against people indulging in such malpractices.
