MARGAO: Accusing the South Goa Planning and Development Authority (SGPDA) of charging higher sopo rates from the fish cutters at the wholesale fish market and not issuing receipts for the same, Adv Anacleto Viegas filed a memorandum on behalf of the fish-cutters, demanding an end to their exploitation.
He said that the person appointed to collect the sopo fees has hiked it from Rs 50 to Rs 100 and presently from Rs 100 to Rs 200 per day. “Even on the days when there is no supply of fish, the appointee insists that they pay the sopo fees of Rs 200, and does not issue a receipt. They are not even given dustbins,” alleged Viegas.
