Fish fest takes off to a colourful start

MARGAO: The 2nd four-day Aqua Goa Mega Festival 2015 got off to a colourful start at Navelim on Thursday with Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar complimenting Fisheries Minister Avertano Furtado for setting a good precedence by holding the mega event and promising all assistance to boost infrastructure in the constituency.

“The Fisheries Minister deserves a compliment. He has set an ideal example by holding the Aqua Goa festival. Other departments may emulate the Fisheries Minister by holding similar events concerning their respective departments”, the Chief Minister said after inaugurating the four-day event in the presence of the Fisheries Minister, MLAs Benjamin D’Silva and Rajan Naik, Fisheries Secretary Amjad Tak, Fisheries Director Dr Sharmila Monteiro, district Collector, Venancio Furtado, Sarpanchas, ZP members and others.
He said a number of development projects are underway in Navelim, including the sewage work, road widening works, adding that an indoor stadium will be built in Navelim for the benefit of the school students and general public alike.
IN his address, the Fisheries Minister said that a multipurpose indoor stadium and a swimming pool with a jogging track and other amenities will be build opposite the district library at a cost of Rs 150 crore before the National games. 
The festival venue has a number of stalls exhibiting a wide variety of fresh/processed/ready to eat and fried fish products to ornamental fish breeders. The Cutbona Boat Owners Union has set up a stall selling subsidised fish to the visitors. The Union also distributed free fish to the first 100 customers who visited the stall. Quality Exports, which is celebrating a decade of existence has set up a stall including ready to eat and fried fish products.
Various entertainment programs also line up on all the four days. The festival will be held in Mapusa from Feb 5.
