Fisheries Corp will solve issues related to fish: Palyekar

Palyekar said the file has been moved to Chief Minister for final approval and once that is cleared further formalities would be completed

PANJIM: Fisheries Minister Vinod Palyekar on Monday said the new Goa Fisheries Corporation mooted by the government will solve all problems related to fish imports and exports.
In a chat with Herald, Palyekar said the file has been moved to Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar for final approval and once that is cleared further formalities would be completed.
He said issues related to import and carcinogenic chemicals used on fish will be looked into by the Corporation. He added, “Issues related to the exports of fish and subsidies to fishermen, trawler owners etc will also be looked into.”
On the fish import ban, he reiterated, “It is in the interest of Goans. Though there is shortage of fish in State it is temporary and will put lot of things in place. He said the Fisheries Department is working on how to tackle the shortage of fish in the State.
On aqua festival, Palyekar said, it is needed to make the youth aware of the opportunities. “This year too we will hold the festival but it will concentrate on educating youth and students on fishing culture and opportunities,” he added.
