Fisheries dept releases grants-in aid

PANJIM, JULY 1
Department of Fisheries has released grants-in-aid for three fish markets in village panchayats which were given Rs 5 lakh each. Similarly, fresh water fish seed production of major crop fish like Rohu, Katla, Mrigal was carried out at the Fresh Water Fish Seed Hatchery for supply of seeds to the integrated farmers at reasonable rates and stocked in reservoirs and other water bodies.
The infrastructural development works which were undertaken during last year include construction of 100 mt jetty at Cutbona, Net mending shed at Nerul; Soil conservation at Malim; Repairs of two culverts at Cutbona; Administrative block at Malim has been completed and is functional; Widening of jetty road at Cutbona is in progress; and Construction of compound wall for the aquarium site has been taken up.
The State Insurance Scheme was also implemented under which 3220 fishermen were covered and 31 fishermen claims have been settled by the LIC. Under the scheme, beneficiary nominees are paid Rs 9,15,000 and the applicant does not have to pay any premium as the same is shared by the Central and the State Government.
