PANJIM: One fisherman drowned and another was rescued when a boat capsized on Friday morning. A third fisherman is reported to be missing. The fishing boat, which was 500 meters out at sea, capsized near Raj Bhavan.
A statement issued by Drishti Lifesaving Services stated that a local fisherman approached lifeguard Balkrishna Ambedkar and informed him about the incident.
“Ambedkar informed the Miramar tower about the incident and a jet ski was directed to the incident spot. The lifeguard noticed the capsized boat as well as a fisherman on another boat waving for help. The lifeguards approached the boat waving for help and noticed the first victim in the boat was unconscious. The victim’s vitals were checked and found missing. The lifeguards commenced CPR immediately, however, the victim was not responsive. The body was brought back to the shore and handed over to the requisitioned 108 ambulance at the Dona Paula Jetty,” it said.
Another jet ski radioed from the Miramar tower and informed the lifeguards that other fisherman from the capsized boat was rescued by a neighbouring boat.
