MARGAO: Upset over mismanagement at the South Goa Planning and Development Authority’s (SGPDA) wholesale fish market, here, the South Goa Fishermen Federation of Wholesale Fish Market (SGFFWFM) has demanded to put in place the functioning of market at the earliest.
On Friday, the SGFFWFM submitted a memorandum to the SGPDA highlighting the pathetic conditions at the wholesale fish market, wherein they have also listed several demands before the authority.
The Fishermen Federation have demanded for a proper cleanliness to be maintained on every day basis by cleaning/clearing the ground as well as the drains.
Antush Fernandes, president of SGFFWFM told Herald that originally the fish market was developed to facilitate the Goan fishermen to market their fish. An area was acquired to develop the market for Goan fisherman.
“Priority should be given to the Goan fishermen community at the wholesale fish market,” he stated.
The Federation has demanded to install CCTV cameras for smooth functioning, proper management and collection of revenue, besides also urged that the proposed construction plan of the market, which is under construction, shall be made available to them, and a presentation/explanation shall be considered on priority basis.
“We have demanded to stop resale of fish at the wholesale fish market and surrounding areas. All the parked/abandoned/non-operative vehicles in the vicinity of the market, especially on the opposite road side, needs to be removed or cleared and the same area should be made available to park the vehicles of customers,” Antush said.
Further, he said that they have observed that some persons are charging/collecting fees in the name of ground/area charges and hence a proper legal action needs to be initiated against such culprits.
The federation demanded to collect the fee/sopo either at the entry point or at the exit point and not allow to park outside traders’ vehicles in the SGPDA market or in the vicinity of the market.
