SALIGAO: Fisheries Minister Vinod Palyekar has stated that setting up of Goa Fishing Corporation at the earliest will solve the problem of fish imports and will help provide Goans fresh fish at cheaper prices.
Speaking to the media on the sidelines of a function, Palyekar informed that the file for setting up the corporation is already with the Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar. He said that the proposed fishing corporation will be formed with the aim of giving subsidized fish to the people, like the vegetables under the Horticulture Corporation outlets.
He stated that procuring of more insulated vans through the corporation will help in selling good fish to the people as fish, curry and rice is the staple diet of Goan people.
“After the CM signs the file it will come up at the Cabinet meeting for approval. We are also in the process of buying additional fish vans. Currently we have five vans and will be purchasing additional four to five vans which will travel to the villages so that the people can get fresh fish”, the Fisheries Minister said.
He further informed that the fish which is not consumed by Goans is exported to other states and the fish which is consumed in Goa will not be exported to other states.
“We are also in the process of setting up testing laboratories in North and South Goa within the next six months which will help in detecting formalin laced fish”, Palyekar stated.
