PANJIM: Calangute police arrested five persons on charges of assaulting two bikers for overtaking their vehicle during the early morning hours of Wednesday at Khobrawado, Calangute.
The alleged attackers Vishwas Govekar, Tukaram Naik and Dipesh Naik from Calangute; Rahul Dias of Saligao and Sitakant Zantye from Bastora had escaped from the crime scene but were tracked down and arrested.
“They attacked victims Sam and Mary with fist blows, slaps and broken beer glass bottles only because they overtook the accused persons’ car. The victims were grievously injured and later rushed for medical attention,” Police Inspector Jivba Dalvi said.
The police have slapped charges against the accused under five sections of the Indian Penal Code.
