MARGAO: Margao Town Police on Wednesday arrested five persons who due to a gang rivalry had attempted to murder a rival gang member Maqbool Khan at around 3 am at a gadda near the Fire Station on July 15 and fled from the scene after committing the crime. All five have been remanded in police custody for 7 days.
Last night at around 10 pm four of the accused were nabbed at Yellapur in Karnataka where they were hiding while one was caught at Mungul in Goa. Two others namely Urman and Gokul both residing at Sirvofrm are still absconding.
Police arrested Manjunath Datta Talwar at Mungul while Raja Talwar, Vipul Pattari, Sadique Ahmed Shaikh and Damodar Janapa Naik were arrested at Yellapur.
They had assaulted Maqbool alias Builder of a rival gang with koita and knives and he is currently undergoing treatment at Goa Medical College where he is in the intensive care unit having been hit with a koita on the back of the neck and knife being stabbed in the stomach.
Police Sub Inspector Suresh Gauns led the team to Yellapur while Local Investigation Bureau constables Goraknath Gauns and Babloo Zore traced the accused at Mungul.
They have been booked under Sections 307, 143, 147, 148 read with Section 149 of the Indian Penal Code for attempt to murder, rioting, unlawful assembly, armed with deadly weapons, causing grievous hurt.
